Teams Selected To Compete For New Champ Clark Bridge Contract

Engineers with the Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation that are working on the Champ Clark Bridge project have completed their evaluation of the Statement of Qualifications (SOQs) submitted by potential design-build teams, so the project is moving to the next phase.

“These four teams will compete for the contract to oversee the design and construction of a new Champ Clark Bridge on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana,” said Champ Clark Bridge Project Director, Keith Killen.

The following teams were selected to further develop their proposals on the project: Alberici/Parsons, American Bridge/Garver, Lunda/Figg and Massman/HNTB.

The Champ Clark Bridge team will release the Request for Proposals (RFP) on March 1.

“This means these four teams will receive our formal request to submit their proposals to design and construct the new bridge,” Killen explained.

“We have four very strong teams, and we are excited to work with them to develop their proposals over the next few months,” Killen said. “When the project is awarded at the June 29 Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission meeting, we are certain the proposed bridge design will be something MoDOT and the community will be proud of,” he added.

Killen added, “We had excellent participation, and thank everyone who expressed interest.”

Louisiana Mayor Bart Niedner pointed out the possibility that the bridge would not be replaced in preference of routing traffic further north has been the greatest threat to the city for over 30 years.

“Now that the replacement has been fully funded, I am very pleased with the professional and quick progress by the Northeast District of MODOT to make it a reality,” Niedner remarked. “The city council and administration are planning for the construction and working closely with MODOT. We want to ensure there are no unforeseen obstacles on our end and take advantage of any opportunities along the way. Building a bridge across a major river is a complex effort. It is truly a blessing to be working with so many high-functioning folks.”
