Michael E. “Murf” Murphy

Michael E. Murphy “Murf”, 81, of Silex died Monday, Jan. 30, 2017 at his beloved family farm.

A funeral Mass was held Monday at 10:30 a.m., St. Alphonsus Catholic Church Millwood. Interment was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Millwood

Visitation was Sunday from 1-7 p.m., at Millwood Knights of Columbus Hall.

Michael Ernest, third child and youngest son of Claude and Connie Murphy was born Sept. 6, 1935. He attended the Millwood and Silex schools. He was married twice, first to Patricia Lee “Patsy” Ferguson on June 6, 1959. Mike and Patsy were blessed with four children, Randall Lee, Connie Jean, Michael Patrick and Michelle DeAnn. Mike was a working farmer all of his life. Michael and Peggy Kavanaugh were married on Aug. 3, 1996. Patsy died Oct. 28, 1994. Peggy died Aug. 3, 2014. Michael loved four-wheeling, fishing , hunting, bowling, socializing, dancing and listening to music. He had been a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Millwood for many years.

Michael is survived by his son, Randall Murphy and wife, Theresa Murphy of Troy; four grandchildren, Michael, Shawn, Joshua and Christina; two great-grandchildren, Karlie and Caden; significant other, Desiree Rutherford; one sister, Patricia Twellman; his special dog, Rudy; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by three children, Connie Jean , stillborn, Michael Patrick, stillborn, and Michelle DeAnn and two wives, Pat and Peggy, and his beloved dogs, Thumper, Skeeter and Sam.
