Ralph E. ‘Gene’ Pargeon

Ralph Eugene “Gene” Pargeon, 68, of Vandalia died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m., at Waters Funeral Chapel. Officiating was Brother Ken Martin. Interment was in Vandalia Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday from 6-8 p.m., at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.

He was born Sept. 28, 1948 in Mexico, the son of Glenn Edwin and Norma Lee Wooten Pargeon. He married Brinda Lee Fielder in Vandalia on Feb. 19, 1983.

Survivors include his father, Glenn Pargeon of Bowling Green; his wife, Brinda of Vandalia; four sons, Jeffrey E. Pargeon and wife, Carrie of Frankford; Errett D. Pargeon and wife, Pamela of Vandalia; John T. Pargeon and wife, Kasey of Vandalia; and Sean T. Lovelace and wife, Wendy of Jefferson City; one daughter, Roma Lee Lovell and husband, Tony of Curryville; one brother, Arnold L. Pargeon of Jefferson City; four sisters, Linda M. Bogue of Bowling Green; Judy K. Dodd of Vandalia; Glenda L. Cunningham of Louisiana; Penny S. Pargeon of Syracuse, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, Heather Hawkins, Holly Pargeon, Davon Pargeon, Lily Pargeon, Michael Lovell, Brian Lovell, Steven Lovell, Payton Pargeon, Katelyn Pargeon, Isabella Pargeon, Joscelyn Pargeon, Jaxeson Pargeon and Zach Lovelace; two great-grandchildren, Bryanna Hawkins and Madyson Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his mother; one son, Christopher S. Lovelace; three brothers, Eddie L. Pargeon, Richard L. Pargeon, and Michael Pargeon, who died in infancy.

Gene grew up and attended schools in the Curryville area. After school, he started working at the CE Refractories near Farber for 18 years until the plant closed. He then worked at the Charles Wood Manufacturing company in Warrenton for a few years. Gene then worked for Cosmoflex in Hannibal as a machine operator until his retirement in 2012.

He was a Christian by faith and baptism, and enjoyed the outdoors.

Gene was a member of the Beagle Hunt Club of Perry, enjoyed fishing, hunting, browsing the flea markets, training his hunting dogs, and spending time with his family.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Hendrix, Dale Stewart, George Riley, Donnell Perkins, Kenny Haddock and Mike Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Gene’s grandchildren.

Memorials are encouraged to the DAVITA Dialysis Clinic in Hannibal or to the American Heart Association.
