Richard S. Evans

Full military honors for Richard Schofield Evans of Foley, were held at 5:30 p.m., Friday at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. The Rev. James Skinner officiated.

Visitation was held from 3-6 p.m., Friday at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.

Mr. Evans, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1927 in Alton, Ill., he was the son of John Corbley and Lillian Belle VanLoon Evans, Jr. He was a graduate of Alton Senior High School and went on to receive an electrician certificate. Evans served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from July 30, 1945 until he was honorably discharged on Oct. 17, 1947 as a fireman second class.

He was united in marriage on May 24, 1980 in Moro, Ill., to Bonnie Sue Davenport. He was employed for many years as an electrician for Missouri Portland Cement and later as the Electrical Supervisor at Associate Electric where he retired in 1992. He was a member of VFW Post #9064 in Elsberry and of the Lincoln County Old Threshers Board, and he was a wheel horse collector and could be found tinkering with tractors.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Evans, Jr.; one daughter, Lisa Pruitt; one grandson, Patrick Schmoeller; one stepson, James Morehead; and two brothers: John C. Evans III and Philip V. Evans.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Bonnie Evans of Foley; four children, Linda Phillips and husband, Gary of Rockford, Ill., Richard Evans, Jr. and wife, Linda of Naperville, Ill., Kathleen Schmoeller of Godfrey, Ill., and Laura Gray and husband, Michael of San Diego, Calif.; one step-son, Lester “Keith” Morehead of St. Charles; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Rose and husband, Robert, of Marine, Ill., and Laurie Smithson and husband, Michael of Columbus, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Richard also leaves nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
