Theresa J. Stuart

Mass of Christian burial for Theresa Josephine “Grandma Jo” Stuart, 92, of Perry, were at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. William Catholic Church in Perry, with Fr. John Henderson officiating.

Visitation were Friday from 5-7 p.m., at St. William Catholic Church in Perry.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bienhoff Funeral Home.

Ms. Stuart died surrounded by her loving family on March 29, 2017 at 4:20 p.m. at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.

She was born Jan. 23, 1925 in Ralls County the daughter of John Leo and Ruby Louise Leake O’Connor. She married Mark Estes Stuart on April 26, 1946 in Perry. He preceded her in death Jan. 14, 1975.

She worked at the Twain Haven Nursing Home for over 30 years as a nurses aid,. She also worked at the Perry nutrition center and the Ralls County Historical Society for several years.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Stuart and Karen Bockenfeld of Perry; three daughters, Pam Asquith and husband, Tom, and Linda Woodhurst, both of Perry and Connie Jones of New London, 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Fred, and Ed O’Connor, three sisters, Virginia Hulse, Louise Laws, and Anna Ruth O’Connor; two sons-in-law, Billy Woodhurst and Richard Jones, and one daughter-in-law, Jacquie Stuart.

Ms. Stuart was a lifetime area resident and a member of St. William Catholic church as well as the St. William alter society. She was a member of the Perry VFW post 4088 auxiliary and a member of the Wednesday Club.

She enjoyed sewing, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Mizzou Tigers, and the Mark Twain Tigers. She enjoyed country music and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Richard Lee Jones, Tim Asquith, Josh Moss, Jake Moss, John Moss, and Jay Stuart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Cemetery, VFW Auxiliary Post 4088, or the Ralls County Historical Society.
