Roy Woods

Roy Woods, 77, of Louisiana died peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Friday at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Frank Welch officiated. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery near Bowling Green.

Visitation was from 11 a.m., until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Roy was born June 8, 1939 to Roland and Lola Catherine Strother Woods. He married Janice Cover on Oct. 7, 1961. She survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Lillian Woods Peabody and husband, Kenny; two special sons, Joe Cover and wife, Karen, and Jon Turnbaugh and wife, Leah; one brother, Robert “Bob” Woods of Louisiana; two grandsons, Matthew Peabody and Jeff Peabody and wife, Ana; five special grandchildren, Teresa Reynolds and husband, Corey, Billy Joe Cover and wife, Ginna, Roy Cover, Christian Huckstep, and Amelia Turnbaugh; and seven great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Makenzi, Mercedes, Peyton, Cassius, Coleman, and Charlotte; and five special great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kory, Mealiea, Bridget, and Brandt.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Stumbaugh, Floretta Crow, and Martha Lou Harrelson.

Roy was a veteran serving in the United States Navy in the early 60’s and had lived his life in Louisiana.

He had been employed by Hercules, Inc. until retiring. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Roy also loved camping and taking rides looking at all the sights.

He would ride to the river every day with his special buddy, “Sam”. He was always smiling and joking around.

Honorary pallbearers were David Woods, Philip Wilson, and Charlie Price. Pallbearers were Matthew Peabody, Jeff Peabody, Billy Joe Cover, Roy Cover, Jon Turnbaugh, and J.E. Woods.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Oak Grove Cemetery, c/o Collier Funeral Homes, Inc., 117 Barnard Drive, Louisiana, MO 63353.
