Alan Dee Adam

Alan Dee Adam, 76, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017 at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

Visitation was held Sunday from 1:30-4 p.m., at Vandalia First Presbyterian Church with the funeral service immediately following. A light supper was provided afterward by the Women of the Church. Burial took place in Vandalia Cemetery.

Alan was born June 11, 1941 in Louisiana, Missouri, the son of William Muirhead Adam and Maud Marguerite Pittenger. He married Loralee Susan Lynch on Aug. 14, 1966, at First Lutheran Church in Neosho.

Alan was a lifelong resident of Vandalia and a 1959 graduate of Van-Far High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1964 with a degree in Agricultural Economics and served in the United States Army Reserve from 1963-70. In 1972 he participated in a Rotary Group Study Exchange to Australia.

He formed Norad Enterprises with Jerry Northcutt and Steve Hulett and spent more than thirty years raising hogs and row crops. Norad was given the Vandalia Master Farmer Award by the Business & Professional Men’s Club in 1976. In 2000, Norad was dissolved and Alan and his son, Andrew, formed a crop farm partnership.Add New

Alan was an active member of the Vandalia First Presbyterian Church and the community. He served on the Van-Far Board of Education from 2003-09 and was a Board President. He participated in the Altruist Sunday School class, Vandalia Rotary Club, the Business & Professional Men’s Club, Van-Far Alumni & Friends Association, the Vandalia YMCA Steering Committee, and the Round Grove Community Association. He was a proud supporter of the Van-Far Greenhouse Project.

Farming was Alan’s primary [asspassion, but he was also an avid photographer and a dedicated technology enthusiast. He loved collecting computer magazines and new gadgets.

Survivors include his wife, Loralee of Vandalia; daughter Amy Melinda Meiser and husband, Brian of Chesterfield; daughter Alice Arlinda Patton and husband, Steve of Wildwood; daughter Laura Alicia Adam, M.D. and wife, Laura of St. Louis; son Andrew William Adam and wife, Jennifer of Vandalia; seven grandchildren, Taryn and Alec Adam, Zachary and Madeline Patton, and Alena, Nicklaus, and Adam Meiser. Other survivors include his sister, Jean Knight Durrett of Temple, Texas; an AFS daughter, Melanie Heyden of Zug, Switzerland; Neil, Coral, and Dale Harrison and Loralee Marsden of Australia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, Lorna Lee Adam Gatson, and Natalie Harrison from his Australian family.

Pallbearers included Andrew Adam, Alec Adam, Steve Patton, Brian Meiser, Greg Gatson, Adam Gatson, J Grimsley, and Mark Wise. Honorary pallbearers were Averil Beshears, Jerry Northcutt, Donley Morris, Neil Harrison, Norman Heim, Tony Heim, Bill Lynch, Taryn Adam, Zachary Patton, Madeline Patton, Alena Meiser, Nicklaus Meiser, and Adam Meiser.
