Ray Alan Cox

Ray Alan Cox, 84, of Arcadia, Ill., died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017 at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, Ill.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia, Ill.

The family met friends from 4-6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born May 1, 1933 in rural Virginia the son of Jesse Rex and Grayce Noreta Clemons Cox.

He is survived by his friend and companion of 37 years, Mary Lou Blackburn of Arcadia; one daughter, Pam Hudson and husband, Frank of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three sons, Marc Cox of Overland Park, Kan., Roger Cox of Beardstown and Bradley Ray Cox of Cedar Creek, Texas; two sons he raised as his own, Andy Dobb and fiance, Lindsey Dawdy of Murrayville, and T.J. Dodd and wife, Ashley Dodd of Bowling Green; 10 grandchildren, Amy, Callie, Alycia, Casey, Cody, Blake, Maci, Kiah, Kellon, and Karter; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Julia French and Ina Mae Vaughn, both of Virginia, sisster-in-law, Leota Cox of Virginia and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ava Claire Dodd, and two brothers, Jessie Cox and David Cox.

Mr. Cox was the owner and operator of Lazy C Rodeo for over 60 years. He contracted many rodeos at local county and state fairs. He enjoyed teaching young cowboys every Sunday and attending livestock sales.
