Joanne Henderson

Joanne Henderson, 81, of Louisiana died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017 at Maple Grove Lodge Nursing Home in Louisiana where she had been a resident for a few weeks.

Her wishes were to be cremated. Services are scheduled at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Art Moore officiating. Dr. Earl Wood will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until time of service at the funeral home.

She was born Aug. 25, 1935 in rural Clarksville to David H. and Lillian S. Cannon. She was the sister of John E. Cannon of rural Clarksville, Mrs. Gordena Cannon Travis of St. Charles, and Charles David Cannon, deceased.

Joanne graduated in 1954 from R-III School District. Classes were held in the Eolia High School as Clopton High School was not complete then.

On June 11, 1955 she married Joseph Eugene Henderson from Louisiana in the Clarksville Methodist Church. Their sons are Joseph Eugene Henderson II and David Miller Henderson of Louisiana. Her four grandchildren are Kristina Marie and Samantha JoAnne, daughters of Joe and Doris Morgan Henderson and Holly Rae Green and husband, Josh and Gabriel David, children of David and Becky Wood Henderson. Both she and her husband were supportive of and looked forward to sporting events of their grandchildren and were proud of their accomplishments.

Joanne had worked at Kamp Togs in Clarksville, Stark Bros. Nurseries and Primary, Middle School and many years at Louisiana High School as manager and head cook.

Joanne was instrumental in organizing the Methodist Council Community Thanksgiving Dinner in 1994. She brought her vision of a community Thanksgiving dinner using her expertise in food service management and many hours of work. In one of the early years she personally baked 17 turkeys. Encourage by Methodist minister Jay Frost and the help of others willing to work on this project it is an annual tradition in Louisiana for 23 years.
