Joyce L. Miles

Joyce Celine Lawson was born May 15, 1934 in Bowling Green to Ora Anna Salmonn and Edward Lawson Jr., as the blessed only child.

Memorial services were Monday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m., at St. Mark UMC in Chicago, Ill. Eunice Jackson performed solos with the eulogy given by the Rev. Jon McCoy. Resolutions/tributes were given by Donna Poole.

Prepast was held at 10 a.m., before services.

At her tender age of six they moved their family to Chicago, Ill. Joyce attended Corpus Christi Elementary School and then she went to DuSable High School where she graduated and immediately took various positions within the working community.

Joyce worked 20 years at Cook County Hospital and 20 years with the Internal Revenue Service where she eventually retured from.

Joyce married her childhood sweetheart, Lafayette Miles Jr., and four children were born to this union: Philomena, Lafayette III, Alexander, and Pattyann.

Lafayette Miles Jr., preceded her in death.

Joyce accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age and continued to serve him until her deatrh with more than 70 years of membership at St. Mark UMC.

She was more than a survivor of cancer and various health challenges the latter years; she was a victor not a victim. She attributed her good nature about the conditions to her belief in God and the help of her family.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her children: Philomena Miles, Lafayette Miles III, who preceded her in death; Alexander Miles, and Pattyman Miles; four grandchildren, Toval Daniels, Patrick Clayborn, Joseph and Patricia Miles; three great-grandchildren, Tovayla and Toval Daniels Jr., and Patrick Jr.; two sisters, Lucille Grimmett and husband, Howard and Vanessa Pitchford; special friends of 75 years, George and Yvonne Weathers; Donna Poole, Goddaughter; and a host of family, friends and associates.
