Roy Henry Owens

Roy Henry Owens, 84, of Palmyra died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2017 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.

He was born June 24, 1933 in St. Louis the elder son of Roy Martin and Leona Winkler Owens. He was married to Joyce Grimes Owens of Eolia at the Eolia Christian Church on Sept. 7, 1957. Their marriage was blessed by the Catholic Church in 1958 in Denver, Colo.

Roy is survived by a son, Kenny Owens; two daughters, Diane Owens, and Patty Butters; one brother, Tom Owens; a sister, Mary Owens; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Don, August, and Richard Owens; a sister, Shirley Owens; and two sons, Roy Jr. and Ronnie Owens.

He joined the Air Force Oct. 20, 1952 and retired 20 years later on Aug. 1, 1973.

Roy was a member of the Bowling Green VFW and the A.A. program. He was part Catholic, Baptist and Pentecostal.

He attended Bucknor Hollow grade school in Bowling Green. Passed his GED in the air force, held an associate and bachelors degree from Hannibal LaGrange College.

Roy’s hobbies included reading, house painting, traveling and fixing up old houses for resale.
