Johanna Karola Hamlett

Johanna Karola Hamlett, 87, of Bowling Green died Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at her home, surrounded by loving friends and her furry family.

Per her wishes there was no services.

Karola was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Aschaffenburg, Germany to Karl Johann Amendt and Berta Zilg Amendt. She married Courtlen Price Hamlett on Nov. 16, 1981. He preceded her in death.

In her youth Karola was an avid skier and tennis player, traveling extensively pursuing her hobbies.

Karola was a lover of all animals, but especially horses and dogs, she attributed that to her father who was a veterinarian. She often accompanied him when he made farm calls.

A mainstay in the Community Animal Protection Association, Karola served in the capacity of shelter manager in Bowling Green for over 13 years and later also as president of the organization. Many critters found their forever homes due to her passion.

Returning to her hometown of Aschaffenburg and visiting loved ones gave her great joy and she did this often.

Karola had a zest for life and made many friends near and far.

She will be sadly missed by those who loved her.
