Bennie L. Sloan

Bennie L. Sloan, 71, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 at Evelyn’s Hospice House in St. Louis after a courageous battle with cardiovascular disease.

A private burial service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his late wife, Debi.

Bennie is survived by his children, BJ Sloan of Bowling Green, Justin Hartsock and wife, Courtney of Champaign, Ill., Kathy Kalinowski of Moberly, Steven Kalinowski and wife, Wendy of Clark, Eric Kalinowski and wife, Marcia of Centralia, and Deby Grillo and husband, John of O’Fallon. He also leaves behind his three sisters, Patricia Capps and Kathy Waite and husband, Steve of Louisiana, and Bertie Hartjes of Centre Point, Iowa as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debi Sloan, his father and mother, Bennie E. and Geraldine Sloan, and two brothers, Joseph E. Sloan and Frankie T. Sloan.

Bennie served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He grew up in Louisiana and attended school there where he participated on the track team. He was a member of the American Legion baseball team.

He spent most of his adult years in the surrounding St. Louis area. He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Nascar races. He loved fishing and spending time with his friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you say a prayer for our fag and our country, the land where he fought hard to uphold our freedom.
