Emmett Lee Niffen

Emmett Lee Niffen, 81, of Louisiana died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Friday at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Bill Maupin officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.

Visitation was from noon until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 10, 1936 in New Canton, Ill., to Harvey and Rosa Wilcox Niffen. He married Doris June Harrison on Sept. 1, 1956 at the Riverside Chapel in Louisiana by the Rev. Cecil Logan.

He is survived by his wife, Doris of the home; two daughters, Sandy Traynor and husband. Terry, and Beth White and husband, Stan, both of Louisiana; a son, Andrew Niffen of Troy; four granddaughters, two grandsons; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Nellie Buffington, Jean Niffen, and Mary “Bunnie” Brown, all of Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from the Louisiana High School in 1955. He was employed by the board of public works as a foreman for 22 years before retiring. He was later employed as a school bus driver for the Louisiana School District for 18 years.

Emmett was also a lifelong commercial fisherman. He was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church. He was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan and never missed seeing a game. He was very devoted to his family and grandchildren.

Honorarypallbearers was Austin White, Dustin Niffen, Julie Moore, Amy Pommill, Danielle Steele, and Whitney Branstetter. Pallbearers were Mike Buffington, Roy Dean Sutton, Lorin Heffner, Johnny Cottrell, Charles Love, and Raymond Rue.
