Ralph Waldo Omer

Funeral services for Ralph Waldo Omer, 94, of Perry, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (today) at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry with the Rev. Kenny Sharp officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by Laddonia American Legion Post #510 was be in Lick Creek Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m., followed by Masonic Services and the funeral service.

Mr. Omer died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Harry S Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

He was born July 27, 1923, in Davis City, Iowa the son of Joseph and Hattie Fogal Omer. He married Margaret Birdella Woodhurst on July 15, 1955 in Hannibal. She preceded him in death on July 20, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Omer and wife, Charlotte of Perry and Calvin Robinson of Hannibal; one son-in-law, George Helwig of Bluffs, Ill.; eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: one son, Donald Robinson; one daughter, Margaret Helwig; two brothers, Robert and John Omer; and two sisters, Pearl Gobin and Barbara Maimone.

Mr. Omer moved to the area following his service in WWII in the U.S. Army. He served from Oct. 20, 1944-Oct. 30, 1946 and received a purple heart.

He worked for Narco Refractories from 1965 until his retirement in 1989. He also worked for the City of Perry and Ralls County Highway Department for several years. He was a Christian by faith and past Worshipful Master of Lick Creek Masonic Lodge #302 with over 65 years as a Mason. He was also a member of Perry VFW Post 4088, former member of Hannibal Photo Society, Quincy Woodworkers Guild and the Williamsburg Liar’s Club at Crane’s Country Store. He enjoyed photography, gardening, woodworking, making ink pens and visiting with his friends and family.

Pallbears were Roger Green, Larry Beasley, Dean Wilson, Greg Power, Jeff Williams, Frank Wilson and Ray Eickelschutte. Honorary pallbearers were Conda Smith, Judy Pharis, Linda Wilson, Jim Tatman and Lyndell Chaplin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mexico Veterans Home, 1 Veterans Drive, Mexico 65265 or the Shriners Hospital for Children, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
