Maxine ‘Mac’ Franklin

Maxine (Mac) Franklin, 91, of Elsberrydied Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Elsberry Health Care Center in Elsberry.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Friday at Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Barrett Dodd officiating. Burial was in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Maxine was born March 19, 1926 in Womack, the daughter of Demps Lee and Lora Elizabeth Cornman Hale. She married William A. Franklin March 4, 1943. He preceded her in death July 31, 2003.

Survivors include children, Gary Franklin and wife, Linda Sue of Bowling Green, Janie McDaniels of Wright City, Thomas Wayne Franklin of Farber and Leah Schaefferkoetter and husband, Danny of Bowling Green; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Kuykendall of Maryland Heights; one sister, Leona Stacey and husband, Robert of Chicago, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Tim Franklin; two sisters and two brothers.

Maxine grew up in Glenn Allen and was baptized in 1938 in the Castor River. She lived in Overland for 20 years before moving to Farmington in 1971. She later lived in Belle for 17 years and spent the last 19 years in Louisville.

She was a member of the St. Ann Baptist Church from 1954 until 1971 where she was involved in the youth and adult choir, playing piano.

Maxine enjoyed gardening, quilting, canning and growing strawberries. She was famous for her biscuits. Maxine and her husband did a lot with youth ministry, taking kids camping and sledding down Art Hill in St. Louis. She was currently a member of the Millcreek Baptist Church.

Serving as pallbearers were Samuel Franklin, Ira Franklin, Richard Franklin, Danny Schaefferkoetter, Douglas McLaughlin and Justin Schaefferkoetter.

Memorials may be made to the Missouri Baptist Home in Ironton.
