PCMH Athletic Trainer Ryan Pitzer Helps YMCA Lifeguards Save A Swimmer

Being at the right place at the right time can also mean choosing to do the right thing.

Ryan Pitzer was recently in that very position. He was at the YMCA running on the track on the upper level over the pool. He happened to notice the life guard jump into the water and pull a swimmer from the pool. He then heard the call for help and for someone to call 911.

Ryan, an Athletic Trainer Certified, is also a certified CPR instructor at PCMH. He assisted the two YMCA life guards with CPR on the non-responsive swimmer.

While waiting for EMS crews to arrive on scene, Ryan quickly set up the YMCA’s AED (Automated external defibrillator). After continued CPR and delivering two shocks with the AED, success at last! The swimmer was responsive!

“Having this knowledge from being a CPR instructor, you do this over and over again in class. This has prepared me for times just like this. I would encourage everyone that they should take a CPR course. Life is precious -you never know when you may need to use this skill’” said Ryan Pitzer.

PCMH officials are very thankful to Ryan for being a good Samaritan.
