Donnie Hayward Cheeser

Donnie “Don” Hayward Chesser, 65 of Troy died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at his home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m., at McCoy-Blossom Funeral homes & Crematory in Troy with Pastor Mike Dankson officiating. Interment will follow at Troy City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday (today) from 6-8 p.m., and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m., at the funeral home.

Don was born March 2, 1952, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., the son of Sular and Rosie (Koster) Chesser.

Upon graduating from High School, Don married Marcia Niehaus. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Don and John.

Don worked for International Van & Storage in Florissant for a number of years as the vice-president of operations before moving on to General Services Administration in Hannibal Post Office Building, where he worked as the building Superintendent.

Upon retiring, he followed his passion for fishing and worked for many years as a fishing guide on Mark Twain Lake. Don was an avid fisherman and hunter. His other passions were listening to all different kinds of music and being an old car enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marcia Chesser of Troy; two sons, Don Chesser and wife, Monica of New Hartford, and John Chesser and wife, Heather, of St. Louis; and six grandchildren, Matthew, Noah, Lilly, Micah, Nathan, and Maxwell. He is also survived by his two brothers, James Chesser and wife, Kathryn of Wilmington, and Bill Chesser and wife, Connie of West Monroe, La. As well as four nephews, David, Chris, Kevin, and Keith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sular and Rosie Chesser of Paragould, Ark. He also preceded by a nephew, Steven Chesser.

Memorials may be made to the Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis, c/o the funeral home.
