Lady Hawks Defeat Knox Co. In Opener; Boys Team To Take On Van-Far


While (6) Knox County was able to pull within four points late in the opening round game against (3) Clopton, the Lady Hawks shut down the threat with free throws that stretched the lead back to 10 in the fourth quarter.

Clopton advanced in the Class 2 District 6 tournament at Canton with a 45-35 victory on Monday, Feb. 19 over Knox County which is coached by Clopton alum Kelsea Dorsey.

The Lady Hawks got a pair of baskets from Calynn Lockard and one from Jillian Lockard and Caragan Lockard in the first quarter as Clopton edged ahead 8-7.

Kaitlyn Kuntz dropped in seven points in the second quarter as the Lady Hawks also got a three from Taylor Akers, four more points from Jillian Lockard and Calynn Lockard and a basket from Allison Hunter. Clopton outscored Knox County in the second frame, 20-4, for a lead at halftime of 28-11.

Knox County’s Sydney Miller hit 12 points in the third quarter to edge back at Clopton. The Lady Hawks got buckets from Akers, Kuntz and Calynn Lockard in the third quarter.

Clopton closed the door in the final frame even though Knox County outscored the Lady Hawks 12-9.

Kuntz went to the line three times and only missed once for a 5-6 performance and the team got a three-pointer from Maya Street in the final frame.

Kuntz was named the Community State Bank TribCast Player of the Game for her efforts. She led the way with 14 points in the victory.

Calynn Lockard contributed 12 points to the win. Jillian Lockard notched seven, Akers scored five points, Street had three and Caragan Lockard and Hunter each had two points each.

Clopton will advance to the semifinal game to face (2) Paris who eliminated (7) Van-Far in the opening round game on Monday, Feb. 19.

The semifinal will take place on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. If Clopton wins, they will compete in the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m.

The Clopton boys start their district joiurney tonight with an opening round game against a tough (2) Van-Far team that has only lost three times so far this season.

That game is slated to take place tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 21) at 7 p.m. and will be featured on TribCast.
