Dwyer Arrested For Numerous Charges

On Wednesday, Feb. 28 at approximately 10:26 a.m., Vandalia Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of N. Lincoln St., in reference to an unwanted subject at the residence.

Upon arrival on the scene two male subjects in the front yard of the residence stated that an additional male subject inside the residence had an individual held at gunpoint.

Officers entered into the front door of the residence and observed a male subject identified as Thomas Dwyer, Jr., 63, Vandalia brandishing a handgun and pointing it at a male subject across from him. Officers seized the firearm from Dwyer and detained him while an investigation was conducted at the scene.

It was determined through investigation at the scene that the victim was a resident of the home and that Dwyer had made threats of deadly force to the victim.

Dwyer was then arrested and taken to the Vandalia Police Department where he was processed and released pending a warrant application from the Audrain County Prosecutor’s Office.

He is to have no contact with the victim or witnesses in this case. Dwyer was charged with assault 1st/attempt, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
