Season Ends For Lady Cats With Narrow Loss In State Sectional

The Lady Bobcats gave Clark County one of their toughest games of the season, but fell to the Lady Indians 49-42 in the MSHSAA Class 3 Sectional on Wednesday at Moberly Area Community College.

Clark County would win again on Saturday to advance the this week’s Show-Me Showdown in Springfield.

In the sectional, it was Bowling Green pulling ahead early with six points from KateLynn Charlton, four from Caitlin Bilhartz and a big three from Gabi Deters for a 13-10 lead after a quarter.

Bilhartz doubled her total in the second, but Bowling Green was outscored 11-8 as Clark County tied the game by halftime.

Despite four more from Bilhartz and a six point quarter from Charlton, the Lady Indians led after three quarters 39-38.

Jaylen Early scored to open the fourth quarter and Charlton added a free throw for a brief Bowling Green lead in the final quarter, but that was all the Lady Bobcats had left for scoring.

Clark County wasn’t great from the line in the final quarter, sinking just five of eleven, but were able to control the clock in the final eight minutes to keep their season alive while eliminating the feisty Lady Bobcats.

Bowling Green finished their season with twenty wins under first year head coach Megan Aubuchon.

The Lady Bobcats will graduate seniors Jaylen Early, KateLynn Charlton and Kaylyn McKee as the year comes to an end.

Scoring for Bowling Green: KateLynn Charlton, 14; Caitlin Bilhartz, 12; Gabi Deters, 9; Jaylen Early, 5 points.
