Annie Wendel

Annie Wendel, 98, of Silex died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Silex Community Care Center in Silex surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Friday at Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Silex with the Rev. James Hoffman officiating. Burial was Millcreek Cemetery.

Visitation were from 2-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Annie was born July 4, 1919 in Silex, the daughter of Henry and Nancy Ann Cox Momphard. She married James Richard Stephens May 24, 1946. He preceded her in death. In December of 1980 she married Robert Wendel. He also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Sue Shelton and husband, Charlie of St. Charles; a grandson, Stephen Colbert and wife, Jamie of St. Charles; great-grandchildren, Caleb Colbert, Zackary, Isaac, and Shelby Welker; step children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, parents and husbands.

Annie lived all of her life in Silex. She was a member of the Silex Baptist Church as well as a member of the Eastern Star for over 60 years. Annie enjoyed bowling and playing pitch card games. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan. Above all, Annie loved being with family.

Serving as pallbearers were Gary Momphard, Billy Joe Momphard, Robert Wayne Momphard, R.T. Momphard, Tom Momphard and Donald Chandler. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Paul Lovell, Orville Thoroughman, Tom Thoroughman, Robert Eisenbies, Bill Haines and Dennis Englemeyer.

Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
