Betty Jean Rutherford

Betty Jean Rutherford, 74, of Louisiana died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Louisiana.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Scott Lemasters will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday (today) at Myers Funeral Home in Middletown.

Mrs. Rutherford was born March 11, 1943 in Middletown, a daughter of Olin Clay and Annie Mildred Dunbar Barton.

On Sept. 24, 1961 in Farber, she married Adrain Dale Rutherford. They shared over 50 years together, before he preceded her in death on April 25, 2010.

Betty is survived by her son, Lindell Nathan Rutherford, of New Hartford; daughters, Marcia June Smith and husband, Carl, of Curryville, Monica Sue Renner and husband, Phil, of Louisiana and Robin Gayle McChristian and husband, Paul, of Middletown; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Chris and Megan Smith, of O’Fallon, Sarah and Zach Elliott, of Curryville, Shelby Renner, Samantha Renner and Bryan Renner, of Louisiana, Chase McChristian and Olivia McChristian, of Middletown, Jennifer and Adam Shramek, of Charleston, South Carolina and Nathan Rutherford and Justin Rutherford, of Fulton; three great-grandchildren, Quinn Elliott and Cooper Elliott, of Curryville and Owen Smith, of O’Fallon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lindell Clay and Mary Alice Barton, of Middletown and John Edgar and Linda Barton, of Columbia; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie June and Carroll Lemasters, of Middletown; in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Rutherford; parents, Olin and Annie Barton; brother and sister-in-law, Larry J. and Dorcas Barton and nephew, Vernon Udell Lemasters.

She was a 1961 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School.

Betty had lived in Louisiana since 2010. Prior to that, she had lived in Bowling Green since 1998 and Pike County most of her married life.

She had worked at Northeast Correctional Center in Bowling Green as a cook from 1998-2004. Before that, Betty had been employed at Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville as a cook, for over 20 years, 1978-1998.

Betty was a member of the Middletown Baptist Church.

She was an exceptional cook and her family would tell you that she was the best cook in the whole wide world. Some of their favorites were her fried chicken, pork chops and without a doubt her homemade pies. Betty cooked every Sunday meal for her entire family for many years. More than anything, Betty’s children and grandchildren were her life along with her precious dog, Muffin.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chase McChristian, Paul Wayne McChristian, Bryan Renner, Phil Renner, Justin Rutherford, Carl Smith and Chris Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Sarah Elliott, Zach Elliott, Olivia McChristian, Samantha Renner and Shelby Renner.
