Katherine ‘Kate’ Giltner Cantrell

Katherine “Kate” Giltner Cantrell died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018. She was surrounded by family and loving friends during her final days.

A memorial service was held at 12 p.m., Saturday at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Bill Maupin officiated.

Visitation was from 10 a.m., until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Kate was born on May 18, 1962 in Clinton, Ky., to Donald and Priscilla Giltner. She grew up in Louisiana and graduated from Louisiana High School in 1980. She attended Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State). She had been a resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma the past 30 years.

Kate was active in her children’s school as well as the Shawnee Junior League Service. She worked at Robinson’s Eye Institute as an office manager. She was loved by the patients and received the “Friendliest Employee” award in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Claude and Mariah Brinkley, and paternal grandparents, Dr. Elmer and Sybil Giltner.

She is survived by her parents, Don and Priscilla Giltner of Louisiana; her children, Craig Smith of Edmond, Okla., Cole Smith of Edmond, Okla., and Caitlin Smith of Norman, Okla.; her siblings, Julie Constable and husband, Hiram of Quincy, Ill., Don Giltner of Monroe City, and identical twin sister, Susan Gower and husband, Ed of St. Joseph; nieces, Brooke Schoene, and Erin Deters; nephews, Bryan Gower and husband, Simlin, and Brad Gower and wife, Courtney; great nephews, Teven Blackwell, Austin Schoene, and Alex Gower, and beloved dog of 16 years, Teddy.

Memorial donations in Oklahoma may be made to the St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital or Angelic Hospice of Shawnee, or in Louisiana donations may be made to the local animal shelter, or organization of one’s choice.
