Richard D. Bird Jr.

Richard Bird Jr., 79 of Bowling Green died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Troy.

Memorial services were at 3 p.m., Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green with Chris Gamm officiating.

Memorial visitation was from 1-3 p.m., Saturday at the church.

Richard was born Jan. 2, 1939 in Hannibal, the son of Richard Delbert and Nola Imogene Williams Bird. On Nov. 4, 1961 at the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church he married Constance “Connie” Jo Elder. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Darren Bird of Bowling Green; one daughter, Lisa Bird of Wentzville; grandchildren, Dustin Bird, Dylan Bird, Samantha Reid, Alisha Redmond, Kiera Bird, and Destiny Bryant; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Bird.

Richard was born in Hannibal and moved to Bowling Green in 1954 his freshman year where he spent the rest of his life. He was affiliated with the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, served in the U.S. Army Reserves, and worked at Dundee which later became Holcim in Louisiana until retiring in 2003 after 38 years.

He enjoyed bowling in a league, hunting, fishing, gardening and dancing. He managed and coached girls softball. Most of all, Richard loved playing the guitar. He learned to pick the guitar after retirement. He was an excellent father, grandfather and loved his grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or to the donor’s choice.
