Ted E. Mottaz

Ted E. Mottaz, 84, of Columbia, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at his home.
The family will hold private services at a later date.
Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico is handling the arrangements.
Ted was born in Fulton. on Aug. 13, 1934, the son of Theodore R. and Inez A. Theissen Mottaz. On April 1, 1999, in New Orleans, La., he married Marilyn J. Wassom. She survives.
He was a graduate of Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, and he also studied at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Ted was a veteran serving in the United States Army.
Ted spent 30 years with Ted Mottaz Chevrolet in Vandalia. He went to work with his father in 1954. After his father died in 1975 he continued to operate the dealership until it closed in 1983. He then spent 13 years working for Joe Machins Ford in Columbia and finally retired in 1996.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and his two favorite fur babies, Bailey and Bentley. Years ago he was active in Boy Scouts and the Vandalia Jaycees.
He organized and continued to support the first Brick Skidding event, now called “Prairie Days” that is held each September. was a MU Tiger football fan. He attended church at Woodcrest in Columbia.
In addition to his wife his survivors include one daughter, Paige Robinson; two step-sons, Shawn P. Kirby and wife, Rachel, and Bryan M. Kirby and wife, Laura; two sisters, Ann M. Kohl and Rose Heim; two grandchildren, Stephen Mottaz and Jordan Robinson; three step-grandchildren, Chad and Chase Kirby and Hunter Bethell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph W. Mottaz; one son, Ted P. Mottaz; and one grandson, Andrew J. Robinson.
