Robert L. Murphy

Robert L. Murphy, 78, of Silex died Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Millwood with Fr. Tichacek officiating. Burial was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Visitation was from 9-11 a.m., Friday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Millwood.

Robert was born Oct. 15, 1939 in Silex, the son of Fredrick Francis and Viola Josephine Jones Murphy. On April 16, 1959 he married Karen Lynn Luedloff. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Scott Alan Murphy and wife, Stacy; two daughters, Tamera Lynn Miller and husband, Dennis, and Kimberly Anne Klopstein and husband, Steve; 10 grandchildren, Kelly Hufty and husband, Scott, Wendy White and husband, Jared, Heidi Miller, Eric Miller and wife, Chrissy, Andrew Klopstein, Rachel Reimer and husband, Christopher, Ashley Klopstein, Jennifer Murphy, Chris Murphy, Daniel Murphy; four great-grandchildren, Connor Hufty, Claire Hufty, Katelyn White, Lucas White; three brothers, Edward Murphy and wife, Karen, Ronald Murphy and wife, Cindy, Tim Murphy and wife, Jill; four sisters, Patty Snyder and husband, Bob, Mary Jo Mullican and husband, Carey, Janet Lenk and husband, Curt, and Judy Wilhite and husband, Chas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Mark Lee Murphy; and brothers, Joseph Paul Murphy, Fredrick Murphy Jr., Gary Murphy and David Murphy.

Robert lived in Silex all of his life and was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He worked at Silex Elevator, Monsanto, owned and operated the Silex Market and was a volunteer firefighter for Silex.

He was a member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, an honorary chapter farmer of Silex FFA, was a Boy Scout Troop Leader and a Who’s Who in Missouri.

Robert enjoyed reading comic books, riding motorcycles, and making people laugh. The light of his life were his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Robert was always joking, playing tricks and making up funny names for each and every one.

Pallbearers were Scott Murphy, Andrew Klopstein, Eric Miller, Chris Murphy, Scott Hufty and Jared White.

Memorials may be made to the St. Alphonsus School.
