The Silex Owls and Lady Owls took on Wright City for Homecoming on Friday, Feb. 3.

The girls picked up a 38-21 victory and the boys fell 51-34. Homecoming coronation was held between the two games in addition to a ceremony to recognize the 2006 state softball team (see photo at right).

Elly Boothe and Mollie Stanek led the scoring as the Lady Owls downed Wright City 38-21.

Boothe scored six points in the first quarter and six more in the second for Silex as the Lady Owls built a four point lead in a low scoring first half.

Stanek scored six for Silex in the third as the lead doubled to eight points after three. Silex swept all four quarters with an 8-5 fourth quarter as Grace Hudson netted three points in the final eight minutes.

Stanek’s 10 points in the middle quarters sparked the Lady Owls and earned Stanek the Community State Bank TribCast Player of the Game.

Scoring for Silex: Boothe, 14; Stanek, 10; Halle Mueller, 7; Allison Harmon, 4; Grace Hudson, 3.

The Owls couldn’t find their mojo from the oustide, falling to Wright City 51-34.

The three point shot has kept the Owls in a number of games, but on Friday, Silex was able to sink only two treys.

The Wildcats had the range as Niko Brown hit five three pointers (four before halftime), to put Wright City up 25-17 by halftime.

Charles Turbyeville did hit a trey in the second quarter and Joe Martin netted five points in the second quarter to keep the game close.

The Owls came out of the locker room cold, outscored by the Wildcats 16-4 in the quarter. Wright City hit enough free-throws in the final quarter to keep the big lead and win by 17.

Nick Kientzy repeatedly put his body on the line, extending possessions and scoring seven points to earn the Community State Bank TribCast Player of the Game.

Scoring for Silex: Martin, 10; Nick Kientzy, 7; Brandon Peasel, 6; Turbyeville, 5; Hank Kientzy, 4; Dillon McGill, 2.

The Owls host Community tonight (Tuesday). The Lady Owls face North Callaway on Thursday and the boys will host the T-Birds on Friday.
