Van-Far Courtwarming 2017

Van-Far High School held Courtwarming coronation between games against MMA on Friday, Feb. 10. Jayda Borgmeyer and Sharrod “Boomer” Connor were crowned queen and king. Find court and more highlights on page 11 of this week’s edition and online.

Van-Far Victorious Over Bobcats

Bowling Green led at halftime, but Van-Far took over in the third to win on the road over the Bobcats 70-55 on Thursday.

Bowling Green grabbed a 25-24 halftime lead as Beau Brandt nailed a pair of three pointers in the first quarter and Noah Pafford scored eleven first half points.

Pafford fouled out early in the third quarter when an offensive foul led to a technical foul, endng the Bowling Green guards night with thirteen points.

With the Bobcats main ball handler on the bench, the Indians outscored Bowling Green 25-11 in the third quarter.

Lathyn McMorris scored 11 in the third and Josh Hodde netted ten to turn the one point deficit into a thirteen point lead.

The fourth quarter was high scoring for both sides as Van-Far edged the Bobcats 21-19 to seal the victory.

Both sides had three players in double figures as Josh Hodde led everyone with 24 points and was named the Community State Bank TribCast Player of the Game.

Scoring for Van-Far: Hodde, 24 points; Lathyn McMorris, 23 points; Trey Miller, 15 points; Brayden Christian, 6 points; Parker Wallace, 2 points.

Scoring for Bowling Green: Kameron Worley, 13 points; Noah Pafford, 13 points; Beau Brandt, 12 points; Josh Sparks, 7 points; Corey Bell, 4 points; Dylan Henderson, Reid Glenn, and Bryson Heidecker each had 2.

Bowling Green will travel to Clopton tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 14) for a game that will be featured on TribCast. The Bobcats will travel to North Callaway on Friday to round out the season.

The Bobcats are seeded fifth in the Class 3 District 7 tourament at Montgomery County and will face (4) Lutheran St. Charles in the opening round on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m. The semifinal will take place on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m, and the championship will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m.

Van-Far will travel to Wright City tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 14) and will travel to Clopton on Friday for a game that will be featured on TribCast.

The Indians are seeded fifth in the Class 2 District 6 tournament at Clopton. Van-Far will face the host school (4) Clopton in the opening round on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 8:30 p.m. The semifinal will take place on Thursday, and the championship will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Lady Cats Come From Behind To Beat Van-Far At Home Last Week

 

It took some inspiring words in the locker room, but Bowling Green turned a two point deficit at halftime into a 59-33 win over the Van-Far Lady Indians on Thursday.

Reaghan Case, Jayle Jennings and Jayda Borgmeyer all hit three pointers in the first half for Van-Far as the Lady Indians led 23-21 after two quarters.

Bowling Green skipped the halftime warm-up to regroup and plan. The change was immediate.

The Lady Cats outscored Van-Far 18-4 in the quarter with six points from Gabi Deters and a three ball from Jaylen Early.

The onslaught continued in the final quarter, with Bowling Green outpacing the Lady Indians 18-8.

Caitlyn Billhartz kept the Lady Bobcats in afloat in the first half and finished with thirteen points to earn the Community State Bank TribCast Player of the Game.
