Robert L. Welch Jr.

Robert L. Welch, Jr., 80, of Springfield, formerly of Pike County died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 in Republic.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Monday at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. Marvin Scherff officiated. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bowling Green.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 24, 1936 in Pike County to Robert L. Welch, Sr. and Nellie Anne Irene Adams Welch. He was married to Norma Wharton on June 19, 1960. They were divorced in February 1982. She survives. He had been with his partner, Dorothy Woolley for 27 years when she died in November 2014.

He is survived by one son, Robert Lewis Welch III and wife, Judy; one daughter, Sonja Welch Scherff and husband, Bert; five grandchildren, Frank Raddatz and wife, Tera, Robert Welch IV, Jennifer Welch and Justin Fairchild, A J Scherff and Maria Lucero, and Marvin Scherff and Sabrina Lee; 10 great-grandchildren, Frank Raddatz II, Makayla Raddatz, Hunter Raddatz, Natalie Welch, Clayton Welch, Katie Welch, Maddie Welch, Olivia Welch, Remington Welch, Liam Scherff, Elizabeth Fairchild, and Logan Fairchild; two brothers, Charles Danny Welch wife, Linda, and Joe Welch; three sisters, Anita Niffen and husband, Glen, Wilma Ferguson, and Lenora Cairo and husband, Phillip; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his partner, Dorothy, a brother, Mike “Koolaid” Welch, and sisters, Betty Clements, Jeanette Paxton, Leoretta Keller, and Christina Evans.

Robert was a graduate of Clopton High School in 1955. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a certified electrician and had owned his own business in Springfield called Bob’s Refrigeration.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Frank Raddatz, Robert Welch IV, Albert Scherff, Jr., Frank Raddatz II, Hunter Raddatz, and Justin Fairchild.
