Mystery Photo Takes Best In Show

Louisiana Community Betterment Association sponsored the Third Annual Photo Contest and Exhibit on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Twin Pike YMCA.

There were 34 photos in this years’ competition. The show was well attended by many in the community. Judges for the competition were Amanda DePriest, Viki Cadwallader and Cindy Logan. Special appreciation goes to our prize sponsors, The Mercantile Bank, Rivers Edge Motel and Bank of Louisiana.

Photos during the judging phase are only identified by a number to keep the identity of the artist confidential. Once the final decisions of the judges are in and ribbons are awarded, the LCBA committee then places identifying markers with the artist name and title of the photos by each photo for exhibition purposes.

Four “Participant” ribbons and cash prizes of $25.00 each were awarded to Danny Ramos, Dan Borders, Russ Adams and Clarence Hendricks. The “Best In Show” ribbon and a $100 cash prize was awarded to Mr. Dan Borders. “The biggest mystery of the evening was the Best In Show photo,” stated Diana Huckstep, Chairperson for the LCBA and the organizer of the event. The title of his submission was “Tall Tales.” It was a photo of an elderly gentleman, but it did not identify the person in the photo. Many of the attendees would ask who the gentleman was, but no one seemed positive as to the identity of the gentleman.”

“It was quite a surprise to all of us that were there for the closing of the exhibit, when one of the young ladies, who is an employee of the YMCA, walked into the room and declared, “That’s my Grandpa!”, stated Ms. Huckstep. “The gentleman’s name is Raymond Hunter and he is a lifelong resident as well as a neighbor of Mr. Borders, the photographer. The “Mystery” was finally solved.”

Eight of the photos on display were sold during the exhibit. The remaining photos will now be on display for the next two weeks at the Louisiana Library at 121N. 3rd. St. in Louisiana. The photos will still be available for purchase. If you were unable to attend the showing on Saturday evening, please stop by the Library and enjoy the beautiful photos. A 10% sellers fee from the purchase of any picture goes to the work of the Louisiana Community Betterment Association.
