Ralph David Barr

Ralph David Barr, 68, of Payson, Ill., formerly of Laddonia died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. 

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Sunday at Myers Funeral Home in Middletown with the Rev. John Foster officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown.  

Visitation was from 1 p.m., until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home. 

 Mr. Barr was born Feb. 13, 1951 in Hannibal, a son of Glen Barr Sr. and Wanda Madeline Tapley Barr.

Ralph was first married to Frances Helen Schumacher and had two children, Lisa and Teddy.  He later married Theresa Lynn Carter Ellerman on May 26, 2010 in Bowling Green,.  She survives at the home in Payson, Ill. 

 Ralph and Theresa have lived in Payson, Ill., the last three years.  Prior to that, he lived in Spencerburg for 11 years and in Laddonia for over 35 years. 

In previous years, Ralph was employed with Kaiser/National brick plant in Mexico.  He then went to work at Fulton State Hospital as a counselor’s aide.  Later he worked for Harbison-Walker Refractories in Vandalia where he was employed for over 15 years before retiring.  

Ralph was an avid outdoorsman who knew all about nature, plants, flowers and anything that grew outside.  He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and hunting and collecting arrowheads.  He was a big civil war buff and loved going to the reenactments as well as participating.  He liked genealogy as well.  Ralph was an animal lover and had chickens, turkeys, cats, dogs and guineas.  

Ralph is survived by his wife, Theresa Lynn Barr of Payson, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Irene and Bo Warden of Waynesville; mother-in-law, Anna Hecox of Payson, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jacob Lee Wieberg of Centralia, Beau Lyndel Whittle and Blake Eleanor Whittle of Dixon, Kale Powell of Festus; two great-grandchildren, Jocelynn Marie Irene Wieberg, and Benjamin Lee Wieberg of Centralia; brothers and sisters and spouses, Jude Elaine Turner of St. Charles, Jacqueline Diane “Jackie” and Gordon Schrader of St. Peters, Donnie Barr, of Middletown, Tami and Bill Leverett of Middletown, Glen Allen and Sandy Barr Jr., of Montgomery City; in addition to several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ted Alan “Teddy” Barr; infant sister and nephew, Matthew A. Leverett.

Serving as pallbearers were Donnie Barr, Glen Allen Barr, Shawn Enochs, Bill Leverett, Beau Whittle, and Jacob Wieberg.  Honorary pallbearers were Madeline Barr, Charlie Leverett, and Jamie Shaw.Serving as pallbearers were Donnie Barr, Glen Allen Barr, Shawn Enochs, Bill Leverett, Beau Whittle, and Jacob Wieberg.  Honorary pallbearers were Madeline Barr, Charlie Leverett, and Jamie Shaw.
