Absentee voting for Missouri’s controversial presidential primary election is under way.
People who will be out-of-state or otherwise predisposed on Feb. 7 can cast absentee ballots at county clerks’ offices until Feb. 6.
However, people who have not registered to vote have until Jan. 11 to sign up.
Critics say the election is a waste of up to $8 million taxpayer dollars because the outcome won’t have any effect on party nominees. Delegates for party conventions will be chosen during caucuses later in the spring.
Supporters say the election gives a broader base of Missourians a chance to indicate their preferences.
