Missouri will get nearly $8 million in stimulus funding for rural development.
The city of Frankford is one of four Missouri projects will receive a total of $7,986,900 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding to help rural communities across the state. The stimulus funding is provided through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Grant Program.
According to the USDA, the grant and loan funding will help provide safe drinking water and improved wastewater treatment systems for rural towns and communities. They are distributing a total of $143 million for 59 projects in 21 states.
The city of Frankford will receive $313,900 in grant funding and $330,000 in low-interest loan funding for a total of $643,900.
Funding to states and localities through the economic recovery package will be allocated through existing federal programs like these, rather than earmarks, in order to ensure prompt distribution and better accountability. Local projects receive funds from these grants by following the process set up by each program.
Competitive merit and need based federal grants and low-interest government loans bring federal assistance to Missouri in an honest and fiscally responsible manner.
