obit2Gladys Maxine (Terry) Stewart, 78, of rural Curryville died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Funeral services were Friday at 10 a.m., at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia with the Rev. Dawn Marie Turner officiating. Music was provided by soloist Marion Branstetter. Burial was in Farber Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 6, 1931 in Farber, the daughter of Floyd William “John” and Beulah Madeline (Prock) Terry. She married Wendell Wayne Stewart on May 20, 1950 in Vandalia. He survives at the home.
Survivors include: five daughters, Diana K. Moore of Taneyville, Jayne Stewart of Columbia, Jackie Branstetter and husband, Marion of Frankford, Kim McCollum and husband, Greg of Centralia and Laura Jurotich and husband, Ed of Wentzville; three sisters, Alice Kampeter of Farber, Imogene Dungan of Laddonia and Fern Price of Sturgeon; 10 grandchildren, Renee, Eddie and Pat Moore; Rachel Robb and husband, Kevin, Jason, Matthew and Joshua McCollum, Joshua, Lauren and Hunter Jurotich; 10 great-grandchildren, Allison, Andrew, Belle, Patterson and Jeremy Moore, Abby, Lexi and Mara Robb, Mackenzie and Gavin McCollum; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles Terry, Floyd Terry and Jack Terry; two sisters, Thelma Stewart and Dorothy Barr and one son-in-law, Ira Bud Moore.
Maxine grew up in the Farber area and graduated from Farber High School in 1949. A year later she married Wayne Stewart and became a full-time homemaker on the family farm. They have lived at their farm in rural Curryville now since 1966. Maxine was a member of the New Harmony Christian Church and enjoyed cooking, playing different board games with her grandchildren and working crossword puzzles.
Pallbearers were Steve Terry, Chris Terry, Eddie Kampeter, Bobby Carl Stewart, Floyd Terry and Terry Dungan.
