Funeral services for Barbara J. Yates, 67, of Clarksville, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Paynesville. The Rev. Herbert Wommack and Rev. Rhoda Stuart officiated. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Friday at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana.
Ms. Yates died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at the Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana.
She was born Jan. 5, 1942 in Whiteside to William and Martha Wommack Yates.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Pearl and husband, Kenny of Clarksville, Shelly Redd and husband, Chris, Clarksville and Suzette Yates of St. Louis,; 2 sons, Stacey Drew Yates and wife, Carol of Clarksville and Scott Jeffrey Yates and wife, Becky of Clarksville; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Janet Douglas of St. Louis and Sandra Warren of Clarksville; 2 brothers-in-law, J.C. Douglas and J.C. Warren, both of Clarksville; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Les and Emma Lou Yates, her mother, Martha “Granny” Yates, Aug. 7, 1998, her father, William “Bubble” Yates, Oct. 21, 2007 and a son, Stephen Eugene Yates, Feb. 9, 2003.
Barbara was raised in Paynesville and attended school at Cullen Elementary School in Paynesville and Clopton High School graduating in 1958. She also attended Hubbard Business College in St. Louis and cosmetology school in Quincy. She had worked at Kamp Togs Garment Factory in Clarksville, Louisiana Head Start, Smith-Barr Manor Nursing Home in Louisiana and most recently at Holcim, Inc. in Clarksville.
She loved playing cards and bingo and enjoyed being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy Douglas, J.C. Warren, J.C. Douglas, Robert Scott, Wayne Warren, John Warren, Jr., K.D. Warren and Robbie Scott. Active pallbearers were Leslie Redd, Eddie Wheeler, Gary Wheeler, Ronnie Redd, Gary Pearl, Mike Yates, Terry Shepard and Rodney Wommack.
