Heavy rains brought on flash flooding last Tuesday that tore through numerous businesses and homes, leaving a thick coat of mud behind. City crews brought out a bulldozer and other equipment to clear streets in Louisiana. Garbage, limbs and other debris clung to the guard rails at Tennessee and 5th Streets, behind the Elks Lodge (pictured above). Buildings in the low downtown areas such as the Elks, Pikers and Eagle Business Products were particularly hard hit by the wicked storm. Portions of Highway 54 in both Pike Counties had to be closed at times for rushing water and debris. City officials in both Louisiana and Clarksville have turned their attention to the Mississippi River as water is expected to crest on Friday or Saturday after sporadic storms throughout the week.
